"Bernie Krigstein was born in Brooklyn, New York on 22 March, 1919. His earliest interests were in painting, and despite his formal art training, he considered himself to be self-taught. After he left school, Krigstein did some comics for MLJ, freelanced for some pulp publishers, and devoted time to his painting. After the war he did freelance artwork for Crestwood, Fawcett, Timely, Ray Hermann, Ziff-Davis and National comics.
Krigstein's
best remembered work appeared in the EC comics, which he joined in late 1953, and he was the last artist to come aboard before the collapse of their comics in 1956. He was an artist who considered comic books as a serious art form, and brought the EC pages a refreshing new perspective that dazzled and astounded the readers with each new story. His work appeared in nearly every New-Trend EC title. After EC, he did some work for Atlas, DC/National and Dell comics and illustrated several book jackets and record album covers".
